Hole #6 – Par 5, 505 yards. Remember this hole, you will refer to it later.

What the heck is going on??? Why can’t I play this game anymore??? I blew into Cheyenne, WY with my game in excellent shape. I left town with my tail between my legs, searching for answers. The more I thought about my swing, the worse it got. Sound familiar?  Read more →

Holes #3 & #5 – Double Island Green

Today we practiced what we preached – there’s Always Time for 9. We were traveling from Twin Falls, ID to Ft. Collins, CO – a 10 hours drive. What better way of breaking up the day then by stopping halfway at Fossil Island Golf Club in Kemmerer, WY. Their website states, “it has a double par 5 island green built in 1920 and designed by noted golf course architect Dick Phelps”. I had to research this statement a little further since Dick Phelps was not yet born in 1920. They also say, “the reputation and design of this 9-hole course draws travelers from their charted course just for the experience of playing it”. We had to investigate! So, we got off the interstate to “golf the fairways less traveled”.  Read more →

Hole #1 – Par 4, 316 yards. Is your insurance up to date?

Please don’t slice; don’t hook; don’t hit a house; is insurance paid up? These were my swing thoughts the entire round as I tee’d it up at each hole on the Fairway Village Golf Course. The course is part of a 55+ community and I felt right at home as we met our playing partners. I’m creeping up on 70 but Harold was out there hitting it right down the middle at 89. I just want to be breathing at 89! Read more →

Robin Hood Course at Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna, ID

After driving six hours across “no-man’s” land in eastern Oregon, all we wanted to do was to get out and stretch our legs. A 9-hole golf course seemed like a great way to do this. A 9-hole executive course sounded even better to these brain-dead travelers. But a course called Robin Hood with tee boxes named Robin Hood and Maid Marion? Are the marshalls dressed up in tights with feathers in their caps? Well, we were just there to stretch our legs and get some blood circulating again. Robin Hood it is!  Read more →

Desert Peaks Golf Club – Madras, OR

So where is it? We couldn’t find it. In a town named Madras, there had to be a store called, “All Things Madras”. During my teenage years in the 1960’s, madras was “in”. I had madras shorts, shirts, and even a madras sport coat. No luck in town, so it’s off to Desert Peaks Golf Club. Maybe I can find a nice madras golf hat at the course.  Read more →

Highlands Golf Club. The entrance with the Pacific Ocean in the distance.

June 6 – D-Day and B-Day. Today is the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Even though my father was not on the beaches of Normandy (he was working on B-24’s in Italy), my thoughts were partially on him and the sacrifices of those brave men. Closer to home, today is Karen’s 60th birthday and my thoughts were also of her sacrifices she has made being married to me for 37 years. Her special gift (to deflect her mind from turning 60) was  Read more →
