Christmas Mountain - Pines Course #2

Hole #2 – Par 5, 471 yards. There’s water waiting at the dogleg!

It’s a bone-chilling 10 degrees outside as we try to warm ourselves by the Fire Pit at Christmas Mountain Village. We cradle hot toddies at Mulligans Bar and Grill while watching the skiers attack the Double Trouble expert slope and listen as the kids shout in delight as they tumble down the tubing hill. Oh to be warmer and golfing…golfing…golfing…  Read more →

Stratton Golf Club – Stratton, CO

Stratton Golf Club #1

Hole #1 – Par 4, 355 yards. Fairways don’t get any wider than this.

Finding the course was my first order of business. Driving down Wyoming Ave., I read the street signs – 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and made my left at 1st (or what I thought was 1st) and ended up at the course but no signs of a clubhouse. I saw the maintenance shed and the 6th tee box. I walked around and saw no one.  Read more →

Pelican Lakes Golf & Country Club – The Falls Course

Directions to The Falls Course from the clubhouse: “Follow the path on the right of the putting green; go over the bridge; then turn right at the maintenance shed”. The handmade sign taped to a folding chair helped us find our way. If you are not as adventurous as we are, you can request to be personally shuttled over to the first tee. If you are walking (and I don’t encourage this), you will need to have an employee cart you to and from this 9-hole track at the Pelican Lakes complex at Water Valley.  Read more →

Casper Municipal Golf Course – Casper, WY

Casper Municipal GC #8

Hole #8 – Par 3, 215 yards (blue)

I had to be stealth as I crossed the border. As a Colorado State University supporter and the husband of an alumni, I was now entering the territory of the Wyoming Cowboys. We are now in possession of the Bronze Boot as the 45-31 winner of the Border War football game of 2014 and I know they will be seeking revenge for that beating. The green license plates with the white mountain peaks may give me away as a Colorado resident, but they were probably just a blur now as I pushed the new 80 mph speed limit on I-25.  Once you are past Cheyenne, there is only wide open space to admire, so my eyes drifted to the back of my hands and I started to wonder…when the heck I turned into my grandfather! But I digress…

Thornberry Creek at Oneida. The Official Golf Course of the Green Bay Packers

The Season: 1997-1998; The Event: Super Bowl XXXII; The Teams: Denver Broncos vs. Green Bay Packers; The Score: Broncos 31 – Packers 24; The Result: Broncos Super Bowl Champions. I have to have something to brag about since the Packers have 13 championships to the Broncos 2. Now to the matters at hand (if the Packer fans are still with me) – The 9-hole Iroquois Course at Thornberry Creek at Oneida.  Read more →

Welcome to Wing Park…“the oldest 9-hole municipal golf course in Illinois”
