I am the enemy! I thought by only playing the par 3 course, I could sneak in unnoticed. So what gave me away and made me the center of “attention”? Being a little absent-minded these days, the blue and orange hat with a Bronco logo on the top of my head, was an easy target of ridicule about my Denver football team. Two college-aged ruffians approached me, called me a loser, and tried to steal my hat. My options for this old man were to walk away or try to fight it out with these guys who looked as if they were top wrestlers at the University of Missouri. I was about to find out that I was making the wrong decision by fighting…then…I woke up!
The par 3 course is first come; first served. As I stood in line for my tee time, two well-muscled young men approached in the line behind me. Could my dream suddenly become a reality? Let’s appraise the course and discover if I survived the round.

Shot Value: This course will definitely challenge the high-handicap golfer as well as being an outstanding track for the mid-handicap golfer to hone in on their iron game. The only thinking you need to do is decide which club to pull from your bag because…
Design Variety: The holes from the blue tees range 131 to 225 yards (1497 yards); white – 113 to 188 yards (1263 yards); and red – 93 to 164 yards (1041 yards). There is a wide variety of difficult hole configurations; hazards in the form of water to carry and rough if you miss the green or fairway; and green shapes/contours that will keep you guessing.

Memorability: Two things that made this a memorable day were the variety of hole configurations and my playing partners – Nate and Drew! Even though our age gap was about 50 years, I think we all had a good time.
Aesthetics: The rolling hills make this a fun walk, but it can be a little difficult for the senior/physically challenged golfer. Push carts are available, but no riding carts. Trees add to the scenery, but none should come into play.

Conditioning: This course was in excellent shape. The greens and fairways (I always hate to discuss fairways on a par 3 course) were well groomed.
Ambience: This is a first-rate facility with an 18-hole course and the par 3 track.

Rating – Uncategorized: Fred Arbanas was an All-Star tight end for the enemy Kansas City Chiefs from 1962-1970. In retirement he was a longtime legislator and served his community for over 40 years.
The staff is excellent, there is a very nice clubhouse, and of course, my playing partners Nate and Drew made my day (by not making fun of the Broncos)! They also had birdies on Hole #8 (drew knocked in a 50 ft. chip) and #9 (Nate hit a beautiful shot to three feet).
P.S. The Kansas City Chiefs are still the enemy!
