Cedar Bend Golf Club – Gold Beach, OR

Hole #8 – view of the bridge from #8 tee box.

Driving on Cedar Valley Road all we saw were hills and mountains jam-packed with trees. Where could they have possibly built a golf course on this landscape? As we drove farther and farther up the hill and around the bend, here is what we found Read more →

Big Trees Golf Course – Yosemite National Park, CA

22 Aug
August 22, 2018

Hole #1 – Par 5, 464 yards. Course was a little rough. It had just been open for a week.

Here we go again. While searching for a course in Yosemite National Park, we found Wawona Golf Course and Big Trees Golf Course. It looked like they were the same course but we were not quite sure. The internet is great but sometimes a good, old-fashioned phone call is in order. So, we found out Read more →

Hole#8 – Par 4, 335 yards with ocean in background

Hurry, don’t be late
I can hardly

I said to myself now that we’re

Gleneagles Golf Course at McLaren Park – San Francisco, CA

Hole #5 – Par 4, 292 yards. Shorty with tree trouble both sides, including the fallen “Woody” tree to the right!

One of the reviews about Gleneagles stated, “getting there, you need to venture through a sketchy neighborhood”. We didn’t think that much about it until we saw the crime scene tape wrapped around the area just behind the first tee box. We asked the pro what had happened at this spot. His answer was frightening! Read more →

Water’s Edge Golf Course – Grosse Ile, MI

March 28, 2018

Hole #3 – Par 4, 271 yards. Watch out for those two big trees to the left!

Water’s Edge Golf Course – sounds like a winner, even though the water is the Detroit River. After a drive through downtown Detroit; a walk along the waterfront; and a stop at Hitsville, USA, we made our way to Grosse Ile (pronounced Growz Eel) to give this course the Always Time for 9 test.  Read more →

Red Hawk Golf & Learning Center – Davenport, IA

Hole #4 – Par 4, 253 yards. Beware – Water front & back!

I didn’t know what to expect. I had never played a First Tee golf course. Is it only for kids? If it is open to everyone, does it offer diverse lengths of holes? Is it challenging for the better golfer? After speaking with Brant, the head professional, and playing the course, this is what I learned about Red Hawk Golf & Learning Center and The First Tee – Quad Cities.  Read more →
