We had to go “old school” to find the course. We entered the address (Garner Lane) into GPS and it took us down a dirt road that ended at a closed gate. The street was nowhere to be found. We then entered the name of the course – Riverside Golf and Recreation Center – and ended up in the same place. What’s the definition of insanity?
We gave up and proceeded to get back on I-20. As we merged into traffic, we spotted the course right off the Interstate, but how do we get there? We decided to forego GPS (not going to fool us a third time) and use our superior sense of direction. Once we finally arrived at the facility, here is what we found…
Shot Value: The holes do test accuracy as the greens (and I use this word generously) are tiny and drop-off to all sides.
Design Variety: The holes range from 61 yards to 96 yards, so you probably only need a wedge and putter (there are no pull carts). There are no hazards, green contours, and for that matter – really no greens.
Memorability: There is the “Hootie” House and the Broad River behind #2 green. The Hootie House by the first tee was build by the band, Hootie and the Blowfish, while they were in college (as told to us by one of the employees).
Aesthetics: See Memorability
Conditioning: There was none, but this course is susceptible to flooding of the Broad River.
Ambience: The people were friendly and helpful. The recreation center offers a driving range, par 3 course, and watersports center.
Rating – Uncategorized: We did all the work. We found the course; we played the course ($15?) – now you don’t have to!
