We weren’t expecting much from Willow Creek Golf Course. It was just an afterthought as we made our way along the Blue Ridge Parkway with a short stop in Boone, NC and Blowing Rock. After an early start, we had time for a quick 9-hole par 3 course as we made our way down to Asheville. Remember, there is Always Time for 9.
Shot Value: The course is a good test for the high handicap golfer. A good track to work on your iron game.
Design Variety: There is a good variety of hole designs; most holes have hazards (bunkers and water); undulating greens; and rolling “fairways”.
Memorability: See Aesthetics.
Aesthetics: It is one of the most scenic par 3 courses I have played. The area is beautiful in the Fall as the leaves start to change.
Conditioning: We played in early October and the greens were not in very good shape. The fairways were rough, but you shouldn’t be there anyway!
Ambience: Not much but a small clubhouse. Carts are available but even with the hilly landscape the walk is good exercise.
Rating – Uncategorized: It worked well for these senior golfers to get out and stretch our legs. It would be a quick, easy round paired with a visit to Boone and Blowing Rock. It is also a good 9-hole course for kids and adults who are just learning the game.
