Played the Golf & Pint (and pint and pint and burger and goose) Package today. The Sleeping Indian (holes 1-9); Cottonwood (holes 10-18); and Silo (holes 19-27) nines comprise this 27-hole facility. $25 for 9 holes of golf with cart and a beer – need to make sure I play all three 9’s to take advantage of this promotion.
We played the Cottonwood course at the suggestion of the pro shop attendant. Number 10 is a dogleg left with a pond to carry if you want to cut yardage off this 332 yard (whites) par 4 (picture above). Number 11 is the #1 handicap with hazards everywhere. Houses down the left, trees and bunkers down the right, and not a level lie anywhere as you approach this elevated green. A fun rollercoaster ride of a hole.
Ed’s tee shot found the goose at #13. To ease everyone’s mind, no goose was harmed in playing this course. The ball was almost at a stop when it nudged the goose. He just looked around, flipped Ed off and moved down the fairway. Ed was able to recover from this traumatic experience to par the 382 yard par 4.
Hole #16 is straight but as on many of the other holes, bunkers are strategically placed and will keep you honest. Bring your “A” bunker game. Number 17 is a tough hole for the #8 handicap. Your best approach needs to be from the right (trees block you left), but bunkers litter the entire right side. How’s the bunker game so far?
The finishing hole requires your first two shots to be feathered between the bodies of water that bracket the fairway. Consider this hole a success if you play with the same ball from tee to green.
Birdie: This is worth repeating – $25 for 9 holes of golf with cart and beer. If you are in the Denver area and want to play 27 holes, West Woods is an excellent choice.
