If Dallas, TX is the Big “D”, then is Dallas, OR the Little “D”? Oregon also has another town that wanted that name, but had to settle for The Dalles. We’ll visit that town in another article. The Dallas Golf Club is a 9-hole par 31 “little” course measuring 2024 yards from the blue tees. Before we review the golf course, let’s look at state slogans that represent Texas vs. Oregon. In Texas, Life is better in boots and a cowboy hat; In Oregon, America’s Hairiest state since 1859. I’ve never lived in Texas, but after spending four years in Oregon – Ya got that right!

Dallas Golf Club has four par 4s (Holes #3, #4, #6, #7) ranging from 260 to 313 yards. They are all fairly similar in design and they are mostly wide-open and straight (#4 has a slight bend). The only bunker you will encounter is on Hole #3. The scope of length on the five par 3s (Holes #1, #2, #5, #8, #9) is 100 to 162 yards from the white tees. All are straight-forward except Hole #9.

This is the only hole on the course with water and the possibility of a high score because of the pond’s proximity to the green. There were a number of balls I saw resting in their watery grave.
Rating – Par (33 out of 60): This par 31 track may have been the least challenging course I have ever played. I’m a 16 handicap and I thought I played a very uninspired round. My final score was a 3 over 34, which should give you an idea of how easy the course will play. It is a nice place for the residents to gather and have fun on a well-conditioned course. The staff was friendly and as I mentioned, the greens and fairways were in excellent shape.

This was also another adventure in the Oregon/Washington, Always Time for 9/McMenamins, Golf/Beer Trail. During this trip we drove a few miles down the road to the Boons Treasury location in Salem. John Boon was elected Oregon’s first treasurer in 1851, and conducted both state and store business out of this brick building. The staff was fantastic and I was able to complete my Salem Passport Challenge.
